As one year ends and another begins, it’s time to look back at some of my favourite adventures in the gaming world. The past twelve months have been interesting yet again, filled with moments of uncertainty but also slowly trying to move to some kind of new normal.
Looking back at the same post that I did last year, I can only really echo much of what I said twelve months ago. In that post, I talked about how video games have been there every step of the way for many of us. However, they have been the perfect way to escape, relax and keep us connected with friends and communities across the world.
My backlog continues to grow. In fact, I have so many games still to play that I have no real idea where or which game I want to start with. In some ways it is a good thing, but also it can feel a little overwhelming too. Needless to say, I really need to start chipping my way through the backlog this year.
As for the year overall, there were a number of games that I loved playing and exploring. I can definitely say I’ve explored a vast variety of different games again this year, which actually makes narrowing down my favourite games incredibly hard, but I’ll give it my best shot.
Here are a few of my favourite games from the past twelve months!
- New Pokémon Snap
- Cozy Grove
- Drive Buy
- Genshin Impact
- Final Fantasy XIV
- The Sims 4 Cottage Living
- Animal Crossing New Horizons & Happy Home Paradise DLC
- Life is Strange: True Colors
- Mario Golf: Super Rush
- Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
- Forza Horizon 5
- Pokémon Brilliant Diamond
- Super Mario 3D World
- The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Special Edition
While these some of my many favourite games, I also spent a lot of time revisiting some older games including The Urbz: Sims in the City, The Sims 2 and SSX3 for the original Xbox. Doing this has been great fun, and I’m excited to rediscover a number of older games again during the course of this year.
You may recall that I began to upload a few videos of these games to YouTube not long after I picked up my Elgato Capture Card. While I haven’t uploaded much recently, I’m hoping to do so again soon.
Now, if you were to ask me what my top game was for last year, I would have to be honest and say there are just too many to chose from. The sheer number of different games I’ve played for one reason or another is unreal. Each of the games I’ve listed above are there for a number of different reasons. These include ones that stood out to me, that took me on a number of different adventures, that I’ve just enjoyed playing them and so many more reasons.
With that being said, I did come up with a small handful of questions to try and summarize my past year with video games.
Which game from twenty-twenty one stood out to you the most?
Life is Strange: True Colors
What was your stand-out Indie game from twenty-twenty one?
What was your most anticipated game from the past year?
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
A game that you played that you didn’t think you would enjoy but did?
What game(s) from twenty-twenty one did you want to play but haven’t yet?
Deathloop & Riders Republic
Even though the questions above only show a small snapshot of my last year, I can honestly say that last year was one of my favourites for gaming. It will be tough, but I think twenty-twenty two will be just as good if not better!
Do feel free to answer and use the questions above in your own posts, and I look forward to sharing the games I am looking forward to in twenty-twenty two with you soon!
