A Rainy Afternoon Throwback

It has been a long time coming but I finally took the time to sit down and tidy up my computer. I had files scattered everywhere. Duplicates of some documents and some random file names for other documents. Whilst I was cleaning up and backing up some files I came across some blog posts from my original blog. Some that I had totally forgotten about.

These are from about three or four years ago when I was incredibly new to the blogging scene. Although I was writing about video games, my posts weren’t always well thought through and the blog in question was a mixture of reviews, first impressions, news, and all sorts really. Despite all that, I’m still super proud of that blog and what I achieved and learned during that time.

Here are a few of the posts that I came across.

Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries

Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries (Woolfe) is a game by GriN Gamestudio and Rebellion Developments. Released in March 2015, Woolfe is a 2.5 dimensional, mixed platform and hack and slash single-player game taking the classic story of Little Red Riding Hood and putting a new twist on it.

The adventure starts in a dusty attic in the steampunk-inspired city of Ulrica where Red grew, up prior to tragic events in her family. She is back to get revenge on the big bad Mr. B.B Woolfe who has taken over the city and replaced flesh and bones for tin.

I actually stumbled across this game on Steam when I was looking for another game but currently, I’m about an hour into the game. So far the game is quite enjoyable. I just completed the first “boss” fight. Combat mechanics are simple in this game with them seeming easy to start with until the addition of combinations just before the boss fight. If in doubt though do what most of us would do and smash buttons and hope for the best.

The graphics are beautiful and there are so much depth and detail to every aspect of the game. Even the details on the characters even the little things you might not notice as much (like when Red uses sneak and her toes are pointed as she takes each step)

Although the game appears to be only several hours long it is a game worth looking into. If you are after a short, sweet and exciting game to play and you like platform and hack and slash games then I would recommend it.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

I had a few hours spare between shifts at work today and thought that it would be the perfect opportunity to play a bit of Lara’s next adventure. I’m now sat here questioning myself as to why have I not purchased this game sooner than I have. I don’t want to give away too much of the story for those of you who haven’t yet played Rise of the Tomb Raider yet, but from the couple of hours that I have played, I’m hooked on the game.

There is a distinct difference in how Lara is as a character this time around compared to the previous 2013 Tomb Raider game. That’s noticeable from the start. She is more focused on her ambitions and finishing the work of her father. Lara is still scarred from the events in Yamatai but this does not stop her. Although her aim is to survive she is proving that this time she is a much stronger fighter… despite being crushed by falling ice, rocks, and pillars on a few occasions.

There are also more skills that you can master around four different categories, there are a few new skills that I have come across so far relating to languages that Lara can read/speak, lots of scrolls and relics to find, area-specific challenges which of course offer you even more rewards and there are also characters who can give you extra missions to help unlock more outfits for Lara and also give you XP too. The detail put into this game is outstanding not to mention some of the views that you get to see as well.

I’m going to keep this short but I recommend that it’s a game worth playing even if Tomb Raider games aren’t normally a game you would reach for. Once I’ve gotten a bit further into the game I will post a full review with my thoughts on the game as a whole and not just the section I have played so far.

ReCore

I picked up ReCore a few days ago and so far I have played the game for about ten hours now. So far I’m really enjoying the game and haven’t really come across many flaws with the game either.

Starting the game for the first time I had all these ideas of how the game could play out. How Joule’s Corebot companions would help out in the story, how I would save Far Eden and generally just being curious about what could happen next. The game has definitely got me thinking about how the story will play out overall.

The quests I’ve done so far are pretty straight forward and interesting. Nothing else to really say about them at the moment as I’m still quite early on in the game. I got a little stuck on the first timed dungeon that I stumbled upon but still somewhat managed to complete it even though I didn’t receive the reward.

The only flaws that I have come across so far with the game are the loading times. At times they seem relatively quick but others they seem to last forever which sometimes gets a little annoying. I did read that there is a patch coming shortly to help improve the load times.

Overall the game is easy to pick up and understand. It’s enjoyable and full of everything you want from an action/adventure/platform type game. Yes, it has got some early on issues but I’m sure Armature will easily be able to fix them as the game has got lots to offer.

These are just a few of the old posts that I came across. I haven’t changed anything about them just simply copied and pasted each of them from the file. I’ve actually enjoyed reading over many of the ones that I came across even though some are a little bit cringy. It’s also been nice to see how I have improved in different areas since I wrote these too. It is always nice to sit back and look back at older content. I have a small handful of other old blog posts that I am planning on sharing at some point as well, I’m just not sure when that will be. Only time will tell I guess!
