My Top Video Games Of 2018

Here we are approaching the end of twenty-eighteen and what a year it has been for video games. Originally I was going to tie this in with my monthly My Month In Gaming Posts but decided that it would work better as it’s own post. So here are my top video game releases from twenty-eighteen.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider – Xbox One

I was a little unsure about Shadow of the Tomb Raider when it was first announced. I had played the previous two of the newer Tomb Raider games but there was still something about this next instalment to the franchise that I was unsure of. Fast forward to RTX London where I got the chance to play a demo of Shadow of the Tomb Raider and needless to say I absolutely loved it.

Although I have played through the main story I still have a lot of side quests and also the new downloadable content to go through. I’d like to see another Tomb Raider game in a few years time but I can see myself going back and replaying Shadow of the Tomb Raider a couple more times at least.

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee – Nintendo Switch

All aboard the nostalgia train!

I have loved playing Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee. Even though this latest instalment isn’t part of the main story but rather a standalone version of Pokemon inspired by the massively popular Pokemon Yellow.  While initially, I was sceptical of how the game and Pokemon GO would work hand in hand but it’s actually worked quite well and there’s plenty of surprises throughout the game too. Also being able to play one of my favourite childhood games again in a slightly reimagined way has been such great fun as well. I’m excited to see how the next main story Pokemon game will look and play out for the Nintendo Switch as well.

Forza Horizon 4 – Xbox One

Now there had to be a driving game in here somewhere. Having randomly picked up the original Forza Horizon games not really knowing what it was about a few years ago the Forza Horizon games still to this day give me hours and hours of fun. While I’m not the best driver in games at times it was nice to have a Forza Horizon game set in the UK. Seeing the game incorporate the different seasons into the game and how the different race types vary in each season was great fun too.

Ni No Kunii II: Revenant Kingdom – PlayStation 4

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom was actually recommended to me by several friends and I’m so glad that it was. It happened to be a game that I wasn’t too sure what to expect from it as I hadn’t played the previous game. Turns out I loved the game and got myself lost in the story of and the world the game! With that said I’m looking forward to jumping back into the game and trying out the recently released downloadable content for the game.

I have a few honourable mentions as well from this year. These are games that I’ve been playing through but haven’t completed fully or haven’t spent too much time with but regardless of that have still been incredible to play.

These games are Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Tennis Aces, Monster Hunter Worlds, Spyro The Dragon, Sea of Thieves, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

With so many amazing releases throughout the year, it is hard to try and look at all of them and while this is just a snapshot of some of this year’s releases I’m sure there are some amazing games that I have missed and not played yet.

Let me know what some of your favourite games of twenty-eighteen are and if you have any recommendations of games released this year that are worth taking a look at.

This also happens to be the last blog post for twenty-eighteen. I’d just like to thank everyone who has taken the time to stop by the blog, read and comment on posts and supported me on my blogging adventure. Have a Happy New Year and I hope twenty-nineteen is amazing for you.
