Throwback Thursday: Nintendo 64 Edition

In a Throwback Thursday post I shared a couple of weeks ago I talked about how I discovered and fell in love with The Legend of Zelda franchise and how that all started with seeing it being played at my childminders on the Nintendo 64 they owned.

I got my first Nintendo 64 Console out of a fifty-pence bargain box at my local Gamestation store and in all honesty, it was an opportunity not to pass up. After getting it home I realized it wasn’t in the best of conditions but after a quick clean it was already looking a lot better. I also managed to get a couple of games which brought the total cost up to about four pounds. Not bad for just a stroll through town one morning.

When buying the console initially I grabbed Wave Race 64 and Donkey Kong 64 as a starting point. I then set out on expanding my collection over the coming years to include a few more games. Sadly my bargain Nintendo 64 gave up the goes and so I set about tracking down another one.

Luckily there was a local independent game store that sold just about everything related to video games. I knew they were more than likely going to have one. The only downside was their opening times were very incredibly odd. After a few attempts of going to the store and finding they were closed I had succeeded and had a “new” Nintendo 64 console and a few more games.

The Nintendo 64 really does have some wonderful games many of which hold some amazing memories for me from when I was growing up.

With recently having moved house I had somewhat forgotten about some of the games that I had in my collection let alone if my console still worked. I dug out the console and hooked it up to my television only to find that despite it powering up my lead from the console to the television just would not work. That being said eBay has saved the day and I have a new one on the way soon.

My collection of games currently stands at just eight games although there are many more I would love to add to it in the future. The games that I have are:

  • Lego Racers
  • Pokemon Snap
  • Super Mario 64
  • Wave Race 64
  • Donkey Kong 64
  • Mario Kart 64
  • Pokemon Stadium
  • The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time

I’d like to say I have a nice little variety of games in my collection so far with The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64 and Pokemon Snap being just some of my favourites. As for games I want to add to my collection there is just a small handful for now which include The Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask, Banjo-Kazooie, Harvest Moon 64, Goldeneye 007 and also Super Smash Bro’s.

I’m looking forward to hooking my Nintendo 64 up properly so I can jump back in and start playing some of the games again. Let me know what your favourite games are from the Nintendo 64 or if you have any recommendations for ones to play!
