The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs has been out for just over a week now and I have to say this has to be one of my favourite expansions from The Sims 4 team so far. I did talk a bit about the Cats & Dogs expansion in a previous blog post the other day (you can check it out here) but this time, this is my review for the full expansion.
Please note: I was generously given an Early Access copy of the game by EA which allowed me to play the new expansion ahead of its worldwide release and I have currently played over 25 hours of this expansion. All thoughts and opinions shared in this review are my own and are a completely honest reflection of my experience with the Cats & Dogs expansion so far.
First up is Brindleton Bay (or as some people are calling it Brindleton Bae). I have to say I absolutely love this world. The amount of detail and all the little accents really do help the world come alive. There is plenty of space for your Sims to explore with your pets and go on adventures.
The world includes four neighbourhoods Sable Square, Whiskerman’s Wharf, Cavalier Cove and Deadgrass Isle. Overall the new world comes with a total of 16 lots. Each neighbourhood comes with it’s own description as well. Also each of the neighbourhoods have a different feel/theme to each neighbourhood which is lovely and really brings the world together as a whole.
Like with any new addition to the game there are lots of new items that come with it. There are several themes that run throughout the pack which I’m sure like myself will help inspire many different builds to come. One thing that I did notice is that there are a lot of decals, many of which will be handy to incorporate into Vet Clinics. Although it may seem a bit excessive to have so many decals there will always be a purpose for them somewhere in my builds.
Create A Sim
I can’t fault this packs new additions to Create A Sim. There are lots of lovely new items of clothing and new hair styles. Just everything they have added with this expansion is perfect. There is something for everyone. Not to forget the expansion comes with the new Friend of the Animals aspiration and the Cat Lover and Dog Lover traits too.
Create A Pet
Where do I start with the highly anticipated Create A Pet feature? Well, Create A Pet is everything that I hoped it would be and more! There are so many different possibilities of breeds, colours, have a kitten or puppy. The possibilities are endless. Create A Pet is so straight forward and easy to use but the amount of detail you can go into is crazy. I’ve easily lost a lot of time while trying to create my perfect companion.
I was a bit unsure if I was going to enjoy the vet career and also owning my own Vet Clinic but I’m actually pleasantly surprised how much I am enjoying it. Not only that I’m really enjoying being able to build my own Vet Clinic.
I was a little hesitant when I first hit open Vet Clinic as I had about 5 Sims all appear at once with Pets who needed treatment. I’ve found my feet with the basics of running a Vet Clinic and slowly but surely getting there with levelling up my Sims skills to help improve the Vet skill, unlocking more Perks and helping my Sim have the best Vet Clinic in all of Brindleton Bay.
One thing that I didn’t really touch on directly until now is how Cats & Dogs add so much to the game itself through gameplay, how they can be used for storytelling and just the general feel of having pets in the game. I love being able to have a Cat, Dog or both with my families now each with their own personality. Although we can’t directly control them it really doesn’t bother me as much as I thought it would do.
Overall though I really love how the Cats & Dogs expansion pack exceeded my initial expectations. There is still so much that I’m discovering and finding out the more I play. One day I’m sure I’ll get that 5 star vet clinic but for now I am happy with just having my 3 stars. Everything about Brindleton Bay is incredible, all the various features are amazing, there is just so much to this pack that I love. I personally don’t feel that there is anything missing at this stage but I am looking forward to what The Sims Team have instore for future packs for the game and how Cats & Dogs play a part in them.
The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs expansion pack is available to purchase from Origin now. I would like to say a big thank you again to EA/The Sims team for the Early Access copy of The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs Expansion.
